Sep. 24 - The central issue during a trio of climate change meetings at the U.N. is how to curb the emission of climate-warming greenhouse gases. Eighty-one heads of state or government will attend Monday's climate change meeting-- a major reason for the increased security around the U.N. building. Jon Decker reports. Sep 24 - A series of tornadoes hit central and southern England tearing down trees and damaging houses and cars.
Residents watched aghast as the storms twisted their destructive way through towns from Nuneaton in the Midlands to Farnborough in Hampshire. Terence Meaden, deputy head of Britain's Tornado and Storm Research Organisation, said the storms were "quite a big event", second only to those of last December when Britain was hit by at least 12 tornadoes across the country. Sep. 23 - The world's best-known mime artist Marcel Marceau has died at the age of 84. His extensive tours and appearances on camera brought him international acclaim. A veteran of dozens of films, one of his best remembered roles was a speaking cameo in Mel Brooks' Silent Movie. Liz Kennedy reports. |
